Common names: Cativo
Distribution : Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia.
Color/appearance : The sapwood may be a very pale pinkish color or may be distinctly reddish. This difference is striking enough so that the loggers refer to the logs as “white cativo” or “red cativo.” The center of the log usually consists of a black core surrounded by a zone of irregularly pigmented, black or brown lines, although sometimes only the pigmented lines are present.
